Principal Software Engineer (Java Backend)

About the role

We are seeking a self‑driven Principal Software Engineer with deep Java expertise to join our growing Amman engineering team. The role focuses on backend development for our Content Management System, enabling researchers worldwide to submit and manage scientific content.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the architecture, design, development, and maintenance of core backend services.
• Set technical direction and champion engineering best practices across the team.
• Deliver complex, high‑impact initiatives while remaining hands‑on.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing.
• Collaborate with QA and cross‑functional teams to ensure high‑quality releases.
• Troubleshoot production issues and guarantee system scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
• Drive continuous improvement, refactoring, and technical debt reduction.
• Partner with global stakeholders to align solutions with business goals and support multi‑regional collaboration.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
• At least 5 years of professional Java development experience and 8 years of overall software development experience.
• Hands‑on experience with Spring Framework, Hibernate, RESTful APIs, and messaging systems such as JMS.
• Proficiency with relational databases and version control (Git).
• Experience with unit‑testing frameworks (e.g., JUnit, Mockito).
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical discussions, influence architecture, and prioritize work in a dynamic environment.
