Biomedical Engineering Director

About the role

The Biomedical Engineering Director leads the department to ensure safe, timely, and cost‑efficient delivery of biomedical engineering services across the hospital. This role oversees the full lifecycle of medical equipment, from acquisition to decommissioning, while managing budgets, contracts, and staff performance.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and enforce policies, procedures, and standards for the safe and reliable management of medical equipment.
• Oversee equipment lifecycle activities including needs assessment, procurement, installation, commissioning, maintenance, and replacement.
• Establish preventive and corrective maintenance programs based on equipment criticality, clinical risk, and manufacturer requirements.
• Maintain accurate asset records, inventory, maintenance history, warranties, calibration status, and service locations.
• Monitor departmental KPIs such as equipment downtime, response times, and preventive maintenance completion.
• Manage the departmental budget, capital plan, service contracts, spare parts, training, and equipment replacement priorities.

Required profile

• BSc degree in Biomedical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 15 years of experience as a biomedical engineer, preferably in a hospital setting.
• At least 3 years of experience in a senior leadership or director‑level position.
