Database Developer

About the role

The Database Developer designs, implements and manages database systems that support the company’s applications and services. The role ensures performance, integrity and security of databases while collaborating with developers, system administrators and other stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain robust database architectures, including data models, schema designs and metadata.
• Implement and optimise database systems for performance, scalability and reliability.
• Monitor database performance, perform tuning and troubleshoot performance issues.
• Ensure database security through encryption, user access control and regular security assessments.
• Develop and maintain backup, recovery, migration and rollback strategies.
• Automate routine database management tasks.
• Work with application developers to optimise SQL queries, stored procedures and indexing strategies.
• Reverse‑engineer complex Microsoft SQL Server databases to uncover relationships and undocumented business rules.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field and 5+ years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server.
• Strong understanding of database design principles, normalisation, indexing and performance tuning.
• Excellent problem‑solving, communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to handle confidential information and learn complex business rules.

Required skills

• Microsoft SQL Server and Transact‑SQL.
• Database performance tuning and optimisation.
• Backup, recovery, data encryption and user access control.
• Automation scripting for database management.
• Reverse engineering and migration/rollback scripting.
• Experience with replication, clustering and high‑availability solutions.
• Programming languages such as C# and JavaScript.
• Familiarity with cloud database services (AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database, Google Cloud SQL).
