Infrastructure Specialist

About the role

The Infrastructure Specialist will own the design, deployment, and ongoing management of Linux and AIX server environments across on‑premises data centres and cloud platforms. You will ensure systems are secure, highly available, and compliant while supporting application teams and driving continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Build, provision, and maintain RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu and AIX servers, integrating with domain/LDAP and applying CIS hardening.
• Execute patch cycles using yum/dnf (Linux) and SUMA/NIM (AIX), validate services post‑patch and document compliance evidence.
• Monitor OS and VM health via syslog, journal, errpt and performance counters; tune alerts and dashboards.
• Troubleshoot identity integration (SSSD, PAM, Kerberos), SSH keys, DNS and resolve CPU, memory, I/O and network bottlenecks using sar, iostat, vmstat, nmon.
• Manage TLS certificates, enforce least‑privilege access and secure service‑account usage.
• Administer backup solutions across the Unix estate, perform restore tests and support disaster‑recovery exercises.
• Track EOL OS and hardware, plan upgrades or migrations and coordinate with stakeholders.
• Lead incident response, root‑cause analysis and produce post‑incident reports.
• Support virtualization layers (VMware vSphere/ESXi, IBM PowerVM/LPAR, VMC on AWS) and Unix HA clusters (HACMP/PowerHA, Pacemaker/Corosync).
• Collaborate with network, storage and cloud teams on prerequisites, NFS/storage dependencies and service integrations.
• Maintain runbooks, diagrams, CMDB data and provide weekly KPI reporting.
• Manage vendor relationships, oversee hardware decommissioning and mentor junior engineers.

Required profile

• Proven experience administering Linux (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu) and AIX servers.
• Strong background in patch management, backup/DR processes and HA clustering.
• Hands‑on experience with virtualization platforms (VMware, PowerVM, VMC on AWS).
• Ability to lead incident response and produce clear documentation.
• Experience working with cross‑functional teams and managing vendor engagements.
