Travel Services Officer

About the role

The Travel Services Officer leads the Travel Unit within UNRWA’s Administrative Services Section, overseeing travel processes for international staff from onboarding through separation. The role ensures compliance with UNRWA travel policies, supports staff entitlements, and manages official, emergency and VIP travel arrangements.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate travel authorizations, ticketing, visas, UN Laissez‑Passer, residencies and duty‑free privileges for newly appointed staff.
• Provide arrival support on travel entitlements and settlement matters.
• Oversee return travel, clearance forms and customs procedures for departing staff, including personal effects and duty‑free vehicles.
• Certify and approve travel requests, tickets, invoices and travel claims in line with UNRWA regulations.
• Manage official, emergency, medical evacuation and VIP travel, ensuring timely ticketing and accurate claims.
• Monitor travel agents’ performance, certify their bills and financial transactions.
• Supervise Travel Assistants and professional staff within the Travel Unit.
• Administer the full lifecycle of UN Laissez‑Passer documents, including issuance, renewal, replacement and cancellation, in coordination with UNOG/UNHQ.
• Handle customs clearance processes for official shipments and related documentation.

Required profile

• Proven experience in coordinating international travel for staff or delegations.
• Knowledge of United Nations travel rules, visa procedures and customs regulations.
• Supervisory experience managing a team of travel assistants.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to liaise with HR, customs and government authorities.
