Shipping & Chartering Manager

About the role

We are hiring an experienced Shipping & Chartering Manager to establish and lead the chartering function at Cali Agricultural & Fertilizers Trading, part of Musallam Group. The role focuses on vessel chartering, freight negotiations, and building relationships with shipowners and brokers across the Mediterranean and North Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and develop the company’s chartering function and regional network.
• Lead vessel sourcing, negotiation and fixing for all shipping requirements.
• Manage the full chartering cycle from freight assessment through fixture, nomination, voyage execution and settlement.
• Negotiate freight rates and Charter Party terms, including laycan, laytime, demurrage/dispatch.
• Handle voyage charters, contracts of affreightment, time charters and part cargoes.
• Prepare freight estimates, voyage calculations and support commercial decisions for FOB, CFR and CIF transactions.
• Coordinate vessel nominations, loading, discharge, port agents and terminals.
• Monitor freight markets, vessel availability, routing options and regional shipping developments.
• Manage post‑fixture activities such as voyage performance, documentation, laytime and demurrage claims.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience in ship chartering, shipbroking, commodity trading or shipping operations.
• Proven hands‑on chartering experience with strong freight negotiation skills.
• Established network with shipbrokers, shipowners and operators, especially in the Mediterranean and North Africa.
• Solid knowledge of Charter Parties, voyage calculations, laytime, demurrage and freight markets.
• Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Shipping, Logistics, Business, Engineering or related field.
• Professional written and spoken English.

Required skills

• In‑depth understanding of Charter Party terms and conditions.
• Ability to perform voyage calculations and assess freight markets.
• Experience with dry‑bulk vessel types (Handysize to Supramax) and related trade routes.
