Assistant Chief Engineer

About the role

The Assistant Chief Engineer supports the department head in overseeing budget, capital expenditures, preventative maintenance and energy‑conservation initiatives for a large property. The role ensures the building and grounds are safe, secure and well‑maintained while fostering guest and employee satisfaction through effective communication and training.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise distribution, tracking and follow‑up of repair work orders and ensure timely, quality completion.
• Assist in planning, scheduling and evaluating preventative‑maintenance programs for HVAC‑R, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, water‑treatment and life‑safety systems.
• Manage the physical plant, including equipment selection, ordering, and day‑to‑day operations of engineering staff and contractors.
• Provide 24/7 emergency response, operate generators and fire pumps, and maintain accurate logs and records.
• Support property standards by inspecting facilities, recommending renovations, and ensuring proper supplies, equipment and uniforms for staff.
• Empower employees to deliver excellent customer service and conduct safety training and orientation programs.

Required profile

• High school diploma/GED with 4 years of engineering‑maintenance experience, **or** a 2‑year degree in Building & Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, etc., with 2 years of relevant experience.
• Technical training in HVAC‑R, electrical and plumbing systems.
• Strong organizational and communication skills, with a focus on safety and asset protection.
