Data Platform Engineer Intern

About the role

We are seeking a recent graduate to join our Data Analytics & AI Department for a one‑year internship under the Zain Youth Program. The role offers hands‑on experience building and maintaining data pipelines on modern big‑data platforms, working closely with cross‑functional teams to deliver reliable data solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Support development, deployment and monitoring of data pipelines using Cloudera, Apache NiFi, Kafka, Spark and related technologies.
• Assist in troubleshooting platform issues by analysing logs, system metrics, SQL queries and data‑flow dependencies.
• Write Python scripts, SQL statements and Linux shell utilities to automate operational and data‑processing tasks.
• Participate in data validation, performance optimisation, documentation and controlled deployment across development and production environments.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, database, security and business teams to investigate incidents and ensure reliable data delivery.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related technical field.
• Strong analytical thinking, curiosity and the ability to work independently on unfamiliar technologies.
• Clear communication skills and a willingness to document technical findings.
• Ownership, reliability and the ability to follow issues through to resolution.

Required skills

• SQL and relational database concepts.
• Python programming.
• Linux command‑line environment; shell scripting is a plus.
• Basic knowledge of Spark, Hadoop, Kafka, Apache NiFi, Airflow or similar data‑engineering tools.
• Familiarity with APIs, Git, containerisation, Kubernetes and CI/CD concepts.
• Understanding of networking, authentication, logging and systematic application troubleshooting.
