GIS & Remote Sensing Specialist – Amman (MENA)

About the role

IMPACT Initiatives is seeking a GIS & Remote Sensing Specialist to support humanitarian assessments and research across the MENA region from its Amman office. The role reports to the Senior Research Manager and works closely with the HQ Remote Sensing Specialist.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to assessment Terms of Reference, develop analysis and data‑management plans, and produce operational maps for field teams.
• Design and implement satellite‑based modelling (e.g., hazard susceptibility) using Google Earth Engine, Python or R, and conduct rapid damage, change detection and climate analyses.
• Ensure geo‑referencing of collected data, maintain spatial databases, and produce static and interactive web maps.
• Manage country‑level GIS databases, guarantee data quality and confidentiality, and support data cleaning and spatial analysis.
• Represent IMPACT in meetings, present GIS findings to partners, and promote the use of geospatial products.

Required profile

• At least 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in humanitarian contexts.
• Master’s degree or equivalent in a related discipline (e.g., data science, development, international studies).
• Ability to operate in complex security environments and fluency in English.

Required skills

• Advanced knowledge of ESRI suite (ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap, ArcGIS Online).
• Proficiency with Google Earth Engine.
• Strong programming skills in Python and R (STATA a plus).
• Advanced Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with Adobe InDesign and Illustrator.
• Familiarity with remote‑sensing tools such as ESA SNAP, GRASS GIS, HEC‑RAS, SWAT.

• Monthly salary between 3 180 CHF and 3 240 CHF (pre‑tax) plus a USD 300 living allowance.
