Legal Officer – Regional Hearing Centre

About the role

The Legal Officer will work within a Regional Hearing Centre to support the national administration of tribunals. This office‑based position offers the chance to contribute directly to the delivery of justice by managing complex case work and ensuring timely progression of appeals.

Key responsibilities

• Undertake complex case work and assessment activities for tribunals on a national scale.
• Make informed case‑management decisions using delegated judicial powers.
• Liaise with internal HMCTS colleagues and external stakeholders to remove barriers to case progression.
• Support the effective administration of the Social Security and Child Support (SSCS) tribunal area.
• Collaborate with a Senior Legal Officer and judicial leadership while working independently.

Required profile

• A law degree or equivalent technical experience demonstrating decision‑making aptitude within a legal framework.
• Ability to reflect on issues, take an impartial approach, and make evidence‑based decisions.
• Strong communication skills for engaging with a wide range of court users and stakeholders.
• Capacity to understand and process large volumes of information quickly.
• Willingness to work on‑site at the High Wycombe office.
