Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

The Mechanical Design Engineer will support UNRWA’s building projects across schools, hospitals, clinics, shelters, warehouses and rehousing initiatives. Reporting to the Electro‑mechanical Design Lead Engineer, the incumbent will ensure mechanical designs meet agency policies, standards and international codes while contributing to cost‑effective and sustainable solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop detailed mechanical designs for a variety of building projects, applying agency standards and local/international codes.
• Prepare tender documents and specifications for mechanical works, identifying non‑standard items and contributing to Bill of Quantities.
• Research emerging materials and technologies, integrating green and safety considerations into designs.
• Provide technical advice for alteration works, produce technical reports and inspection documentation.
• Coordinate with construction teams to resolve design issues, update as‑built drawings and maintain design records.
• Collaborate with other designers to optimise solutions, recommend improvements to standards and procedures.
• Assist in drafting terms of reference and related documentation.
