RPA Aircraft Mechanic – Deployment Pool (J)

About the role

The employee will join a Deployment Pool supporting RPA (Remotely Piloted Aircraft) operations at various CONUS and OCONUS locations. The role requires flexibility to travel, perform intermediate‑level maintenance, and apply technical knowledge to resolve complex aircraft system issues.

Key responsibilities

• Perform daily launch and recovery duties, ensuring aircraft readiness for operational missions.
• Inspect, service, repair, and overhaul airframes, engines, landing gear, power plants, fuel and hydraulic systems using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, rivet guns and drills.
• Diagnose power‑plant malfunctions, isolate causes, test engine operation with specialized test equipment, and replace or rebuild defective components.
• Interpret Air Force technical orders, manufacturer manuals, and other technical publications to guide maintenance actions.
• Maintain accurate parts inventory, support aircraft utilization schedules, and document all maintenance actions.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent military/vocational training; minimum one year of aircraft mechanic experience.
• U.S. citizenship with an active Secret clearance (or able to obtain one) and ability to meet OCONUS deployment criteria.
• Physical ability to lift and carry equipment over 50 lb and to work in demanding field environments.
• Valid driver’s license, government flight‑line license, and passport with at least two years validity.
• Fully COVID‑19 vaccinated with booster and able to submit an updated SF‑86 within 30 days of hire.

Required skills

• Airframe inspection and structural repair.
• Engine overhaul and power‑plant troubleshooting.
• Use of hand tools, power tools, welding, riveting, and drilling equipment.
• Operation of test equipment and hoist/lifting devices for component removal and installation.
• Interpretation of technical orders and maintenance manuals for RPA systems.
