Translator & Interpreter (Fixed‑Term, Amman)

About the role

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) seeks a qualified Translator & Interpreter to support its communications and documentation needs in both English and Arabic. The incumbent will work closely with the Director of Communications and the Creative Digital Multimedia Communications team.

Key responsibilities

• Translate documents, reports and website content between English and Arabic with high accuracy.
• Interpret at internal and external meetings, press briefings and official events.
• Edit and proofread agency‑wide documents, including sensitive materials from various departments.
• Assist the Head of Creative Digital Multimedia Communications with Arabic language material editing.
• Provide additional support to other offices or departments as assigned by the Director of Communications.

Required profile

• At least seven years of translation and interpretation experience, including three years in an international organization.
• Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in translation, interpretation or a related field.
• Excellent written and spoken English and Arabic.
• Current residence in Amman and, if already contracted with UNRWA, completion of the mandatory probation period.

Required skills

• Proficiency in computer use, especially word processing in both English and Arabic.
• Strong technical expertise in translation and interpretation tools.

What we offer

• Fixed‑term appointment for one year with a one‑year probation period and possible extension.
• Grade 17 salary: JD 1,156.600 per month plus a Special Occupational Allowance of 69.9% of basic salary.
• Monthly Provident Fund contribution (15.4% of basic salary), compulsory medical insurance, 30 days annual leave, dependency allowance where applicable.
• Additional leave: 2 days sick leave per month of service, 14 weeks maternity leave, 2 weeks paternity leave.
