Chief, Environment Division

About the role

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) is seeking a senior professional to lead its Environment Division. Reporting to the Director of Infrastructure and Camp Improvement, the incumbent will shape agency‑wide environmental and WASH strategies, ensuring they are integrated across all programmes and field operations.

Key responsibilities

• Direct and coordinate all divisional operations, budgeting and planning for environment and WASH activities.
• Develop, update and monitor agency‑wide environmental and WASH policies, aligning them with overall UNRWA strategies.
• Produce manuals, guidelines and tools such as the ICIP Environmental and Social Management Framework.
• Lead innovative initiatives on environmental sustainability, including climate‑change mitigation and renewable‑energy promotion.
• Oversee the Solid Waste Management framework for headquarters and field sites, providing technical support and monitoring implementation.
• Supervise professional, general‑services and contract staff assigned to the division.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in environmental management, preferably within humanitarian or UN contexts.
• Strong background in policy development, strategic planning and inter‑departmental coordination.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multi‑disciplinary teams and oversee large‑scale projects.
• Excellent communication skills for partnership building with UN agencies, NGOs and other stakeholders.
