Design Manager – Utility Scale Solar PV

About the role

Philadelphia Solar is seeking a highly experienced Design Manager – Utility Scale Solar PV to lead the engineering and design lifecycle for a large‑scale solar PV project in Jordan. The role will oversee multidisciplinary engineering activities across electrical, civil and mechanical disciplines, ensuring optimized plant performance, cost efficiency and compliance with international standards, Jordanian grid codes and employer requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the complete design process from conceptual and basic engineering through detailed design and Issued for Construction (IFC) packages.
• Optimize overall plant layout, including module placement, tracker configurations, inverter station positioning and cable routing.
• Review, validate and approve critical technical deliverables such as single‑line diagrams, PVsyst energy yield assessments, structural calculations and civil grading plans.
• Ensure designs comply with NEPCO requirements, Jordanian grid codes and other regulatory standards.
• Oversee high‑voltage substation and grid interconnection design, including power quality, protection schemes and SCADA integration.
• Coordinate with procurement to define technical specifications for PV modules, mounting structures, inverters, transformers and switchgear.
• Act as the primary technical point of contact for the EPC construction team and resolve design‑related RFIs.
• Lead and mentor electrical, civil and mechanical design engineers and maintain engineering quality‑control procedures.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Minimum 10 years of progressive engineering experience, including at least 5 years on utility‑scale solar PV projects.
• Proven experience as a Design Manager or Lead Engineer on completed PV projects of 50 MW +.
• Fluent in Arabic and English, written and spoken.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency with PVsyst, AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Strong knowledge of utility‑scale PV system design, inverter topologies, tracker systems and high‑voltage substation engineering.
• Experience with power quality analysis, protection scheme design and SCADA integration.
• Familiarity with Jordanian utility interconnection procedures and NEPCO grid compliance requirements.
