About the role

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) is seeking a Director of Internal Oversight Services to lead its Department of Internal Oversight Services (DIOS). Reporting to the Commissioner‑General, the Director will shape the agency’s audit and evaluation strategy, ensuring robust governance, risk management, and accountability across all operations.

Key responsibilities

• Set clear objectives for DIOS, manage performance reviews, and foster a collaborative learning environment.
• Develop and implement a long‑term, risk‑based internal audit and evaluation plan aligned with UNRWA’s strategic objectives.
• Lead audit investigations, supervise evaluations, and maintain effective relationships with senior management and the Advisory Committee on Internal Oversight.
• Produce high‑quality audit reports, monitor implementation of recommendations, and report on their effectiveness.
• Ensure DIOS complies with professional oversight standards and codes of ethics.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in internal audit, risk assessment, or related oversight functions within large, complex organizations.
• Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and drive performance.
• Strong understanding of governance, risk management, and compliance frameworks.
• Excellent communication and conflict‑resolution abilities.
