Ecosystem-Based Adaptation Expert

About the role

UN-Habitat Jordan is implementing the project "Mainstreaming Ecosystem-based Adaptation into Urban Development Planning Frameworks in Amman City", funded by the Global EbA Fund (managed by IUCN). This home-based, part-time consultancy runs for about 12 months and delivers the core legal and policy work of the project. It reports to the Head of Programme, in coordination with the project manager(s).

Key responsibilities

• Produce a finalized national policy brief recommending how to integrate ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA) into national legal and policy instruments, targeting the Ministry of Environment and the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, and validated by national stakeholders.
• Produce a finalized legal instrument for mainstreaming EbA into the Greater Amman Municipality's planning and regulatory processes, validated by GAM and stakeholders, including practical implementation guidance.
• Both deliverables will contribute to the project's outputs and satisfy the Global EbA Fund reporting requirement of two policy instruments.
• Work closely with UN-Habitat and relevant national and local authorities such as GAM and the Ministry of Environment.
