About the role
We are seeking a senior leader to head the British Council’s Non‑Formal Education portfolio in Jordan, focusing on youth and civil society. The role will shape strategic direction, build high‑value partnerships and position the Council as a leading actor in youth development and civic engagement.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the youth and civil society portfolio at country level, providing strategic direction for programme design and partnerships.
- Ensure alignment with national priorities and donor agendas, and collaborate with the Heads of NFE in Egypt and Iraq under regional guidance.
- Develop and manage strategic relationships with government entities, donors, NGOs and other partners.
- Manage the agreed budget, monitor expenditure and income, and deliver accurate financial reporting and risk analysis.
- Oversee programme compliance with internal policies such as safeguarding, EDI, supply‑chain management, social value and conflict sensitivity.
Required profile
- Proven experience leading youth, civil society or non‑formal education programmes at a senior level.
- Strong understanding of national development priorities and donor funding frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to build and sustain high‑level stakeholder relationships.
- Experience in financial planning, budgeting and reporting for multi‑million programmes.
- Excellent leadership and people‑management skills, with the capacity to provide regional guidance.
