Health Specialist – Vaccine and Cold Chain Management

About the role

The Health Specialist will support UNICEF’s immunisation agenda by strengthening vaccine supply chains in fragile and middle‑income countries. Based in Amman, the specialist will provide technical assistance to improve cold‑chain infrastructure, solar electrification of health facilities and healthcare waste management.

Key responsibilities

• Assist country teams in assessing and upgrading cold‑chain equipment and processes.
• Promote and support solar‑based electricity solutions for health facilities to ensure reliable vaccine storage.
• Guide the development of safe healthcare waste management practices.
• Provide data‑driven recommendations to reduce vaccine wastage and improve last‑mile delivery.
• Collaborate with global partners, donors and national governments to align interventions with the Immunisation Agenda 2030.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in public health, pharmacy, engineering or a related field.
• Experience working on immunisation supply chains or cold‑chain management in low‑resource settings.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver technical assistance and build capacity in fragile contexts.
• Strong analytical skills and familiarity with data‑driven decision‑making.
