Lead Engineer - FinTech

About the role

SMPL AI is looking for an experienced, hands-on Lead Engineer with a strong background in FinTech, digital payments and financial technology integrations. The role combines technical expertise with team leadership and requires practical exposure to one or more of Keel, RAIN, Mawarid, Fireblocks, Thunes, digital wallets, stablecoins, cryptocurrency or FX use cases. It is a full-time, remote position.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and manage a team of developers while staying actively involved in coding, architecture and technical problem solving.
• Design, develop and maintain scalable, secure and high-performance FinTech applications and payment solutions.
• Integrate third-party payment platforms, digital wallets, crypto infrastructure, blockchain services and financial APIs.
• Build solutions for cross-border payments, digital assets, stablecoins, crypto transactions and FX workflows.
• Drive technical architecture, code reviews, engineering best practices, testing and deployment.
• Work with product managers and business stakeholders to turn requirements into technical solutions.
• Ensure compliance with security standards, financial regulations and data protection requirements.
• Troubleshoot complex issues and improve system performance, reliability and scalability.

Required profile

• 8+ years of software development experience, preferably in FinTech, digital payments, banking or financial services.
• At least 3 years leading a development team or managing technical delivery.
• Strong hands-on programming and software architecture skills, with experience in modern frameworks, APIs, databases and cloud technologies.
• Practical integration experience with at least one of the listed platforms or use cases.
• Experience designing and integrating REST APIs, third-party services and secure financial transaction systems.
• Preferred: payment orchestration, ledger systems, reconciliation, liquidity management, transaction monitoring, CI/CD pipelines, microservices, event-driven architectures and agile environments.
