Recycling Assistant – Solid Waste Management

About the role

The Recycling Assistant will coordinate the implementation of the recycling component of Oxfam's solid waste management project in the Zaatari and Azraq refugee camps and surrounding host communities. The role oversees daily operations of the recyclable sorting facility and collection activities, ensuring safe and effective service delivery while liaising with multiple stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise day‑to‑day operation of the Oxfam recyclable sorting facility, ensuring safety and efficiency.
• Develop and update routing plans for household, commercial and industrial recyclables collection across host community areas.
• Assign daily tasks to truck drivers, conduct field trips to monitor trips and report findings.
• Follow up with household collectors, commercial entities and industrial sites to maintain consistent collection coverage.
• Ensure adequate placement and relocation of collection cages based on feedback from CBOs and team leaders.
• Liaise with municipal authorities on collection‑related matters and resolve issues.
• Assist in selection, coaching and training of Cash‑for‑Work (CFW) workers and maintain accurate attendance records.
• Deliver induction sessions for new CFW workers and co‑facilitate community briefings on recycling activities.

Required profile

• Experience coordinating recycling or waste‑management projects.
• Ability to supervise operational teams and manage daily logistics.
• Strong communication skills for liaising with Oxfam teams, municipalities, CBOs and community groups.
• Willingness to work on‑site in refugee camp environments.
