Senior Backend Engineer (Java)

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer with deep Java expertise to join Nortal’s global delivery teams. You will help design, build and maintain high‑performance, cloud‑native services that power digital solutions for governments, healthcare, telecom and large enterprises.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with distributed, cross‑functional teams and communicate technical concepts in fluent English.
• Define and document APIs, technical user stories and architectural decisions.
• Lead agile Scrum or Kanban processes when required and ensure timely delivery.
• Identify, analyse and resolve performance bottlenecks in distributed systems.
• Evaluate and recommend tools, frameworks and cloud services for the engineering team.
• Maintain up‑to‑date documentation and automate its generation.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong communication skills, both written and spoken, in English.
• Proven ability to work in globally distributed teams and articulate business value.
• Experience with agile methodologies and performance troubleshooting.

Required skills

• Java and Spring Framework.
• Major Java libraries and frameworks.
• Cloud platforms – AWS, GCP or Azure.
• Containerisation – Docker, Kubernetes (plus).
• SQL and NoSQL data stores.
• Git version control.
• Continuous Delivery and DevSecOps practices.
• Performance and security testing.
