Senior Data Engineer

About the role

Petra Ride operates a ride‑hailing platform across Jordan, handling hundreds of millions of data points in real time. The company is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to build the intelligence layer that makes pricing and dispatch adaptive rather than manually configured. You will work inside a live marketplace where any pricing change impacts riders and drivers on the same day.

Key responsibilities

• Replace static pricing multipliers with demand‑ and supply‑responsive models, including elasticity, caps, floors and explainability.
• Move dispatch parameters from manual per‑zone configuration to data‑driven tuning using real‑time demand and supply signals.
• Design and build an AWS lakehouse that unifies trip, dispatch, pricing and location data, and create reliable pipelines with strong data‑quality standards.

Required profile

• 5–8 years of experience in data engineering or a closely related field.
• Strong SQL and Python skills with production‑grade pipeline experience.
• Hands‑on experience building and operating data pipelines on AWS, including Redshift.
• Solid grounding in data modelling, warehouse design and geospatial data (H3, PostGIS or equivalent).
• Proven ability to take data‑driven models into production and maintain them.

Required skills

• SQL
• Python
• AWS (Redshift, Athena, Glue, EMR)
• Amazon Redshift
• H3 spatial indexing
• PostGIS or equivalent
• Apache Iceberg (nice‑to‑have)
• SageMaker (nice‑to‑have)

What we offer

• Opportunity to shape pricing, dispatch and supply‑demand decisions for a fast‑growing ride‑hailing marketplace.
• Work with real‑time, high‑volume data that directly affects riders and drivers.
• Freedom to experiment, challenge existing processes and build the data foundation for the next stage of growth.
