Senior Data Engineer - Snowflake & Airflow Migration

About the role

Aspire is hiring a Senior Data Engineer in Amman to work closely with its data engineering and data platform teams on a large-scale data platform modernization initiative. The role focuses on migrating about 1,000 datasets to Snowflake, modernizing existing data pipelines and improving their reliability and performance, with a target completion date of March 2027.

Key responsibilities

• Migrate data pipelines from Apache Airflow 2 to Airflow 3, and from Confluent in the USE1 region to the USE2 region
• Migrate data pipelines from Hive to Apache Iceberg using Snowpark Connect
• Adapt and migrate existing pipelines to Snowflake as part of the modernization effort
• Develop, test and maintain pipelines in Python, SQL, Airflow and Spark, ensuring data quality and accuracy
• Support scheduling, monitoring, troubleshooting and performance optimization in Airflow
• Work with large datasets and AWS services, especially Amazon S3, for data lake operations
• Collaborate with data engineering and platform teams to meet project deadlines

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in data engineering or software engineering
• At least 2 years of hands-on experience with large-scale datasets using Airflow and Spark
• Strong testing, debugging and troubleshooting skills, able to work independently and under tight deadlines
• Experience with IT security best practices such as ISO or SOC

Required skills

• Advanced SQL, including CTEs, window functions and query tuning
• Snowflake data modeling and migration experience
• Airflow, Kafka and Spark (PySpark)
• AWS, especially Amazon S3 and data lakes
• Apache Iceberg and Parquet
• AI-powered tools for development, testing and debugging
