Translator & Interpreter (Grade 17)

About the role

The incumbent will provide high‑quality translation and interpretation services for UNRWA, supporting internal and external communications in both English and Arabic.

Key responsibilities

• Translate documents, reports and website content between English and Arabic, ensuring accuracy.
• Interpret at meetings, press briefings and official events.
• Assist the Head of Creative Digital Multimedia Communications with editing Arabic language materials and collaborate with the Arabic desk.
• Edit and proofread agency‑wide documents, including sensitive materials from various departments.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Communications.

Required profile

• At least seven years of translation and interpretation experience, with three years in an international organization.
• Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in English, translation, interpretation or a related field.
• Current residence in Jordan and authorization to work in Amman.
• Successful completion of a one‑year probation period if already under contract with UNRWA.

Required skills

• Excellent written and spoken English and Arabic (UN Level III).
• Proficiency in word‑processing software in both languages.

What we offer

• Fixed‑term appointment for one year with a probation period.
• Monthly basic salary JD 1,156.600 plus a Special Occupational Allowance of 69.9% of basic salary.
• Provident Fund contribution (15.4% of basic salary), compulsory medical insurance, 30 days annual leave, dependency allowance where applicable.
• Additional benefits: 2 days sick leave per month of service, 14 weeks maternity leave, 2 weeks paternity leave.
