Dairy/Frozen Department Assistant

About the role

The Dairy/Frozen Assistant supports the department manager in delivering excellent customer service and ensuring the profitability of the dairy and frozen sections of a grocery store. This hands‑on position involves a mix of merchandising, inventory control, cash handling, and customer interaction.

Key responsibilities

• Provide world‑class customer service and answer product‑related questions.
• Assist with ordering, inventory management, and maintaining accurate stock levels.
• Help manage margin, cost of goods, and department profitability while minimizing shrink.
• Merchandise shelves, end‑caps, and dynamic displays; tag, face, rotate, clean, and markdown products.
• Support store opening and closing duties, including daily sales reporting and cash handling.
• Operate registers as a backup cashier, process returns, and handle customer complaints.
• Participate in active and passive product demonstrations.
• Assist in training and monitoring department staff, assigning tasks and following up on performance.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• At least 1 year of grocery or retail experience; supervisory experience is a plus.
• Ability to pass required food‑safety certifications and maintain compliance.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage changing priorities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with SAP and other inventory‑management software.
