Regional Director, Arab States (Temporary)

About the role

The United Nations Development Coordination Office (UNDCO) is seeking a Temporary Regional Director for the Arab States. Based in Amman, the role reports to the Assistant Secretary‑General/Director of the Development Coordination Office and supports the UN Sustainable Development Group leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the regional office, providing strategic direction and thought leadership on sustainable development across the Arab States.
• Facilitate horizontal collaboration among UN development system entities, regional platforms, and the Regional Economic Commission.
• Support Resident Coordinators with field‑facing assistance, ensuring coherent and timely delivery of the 2030 Agenda.
• Coordinate with senior UN officials, including the Director of Partnerships and Engagement, the Director of SDG Coordination, and the Chief of the RC System Leadership Branch.
• Promote data‑driven, digital, and innovative approaches aligned with the UN 2.0 transformation.

Required profile

• Extensive experience as a development practitioner and senior representative.
• Strong strategic and management capabilities, with a proven record of leading large, multi‑stakeholder initiatives.
• Excellent outward‑facing skills to engage regional, sub‑regional, and country‑level partners.

• Knowledge of sustainable development goals and UN coordination mechanisms.
