About the role

The Chair of Basic Sciences provides academic and operational leadership for the basic sciences component of the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program, covering Years 1‑3. This senior position ensures the curriculum aligns with learning outcomes, early clinical exposure, accreditation standards, and the university’s educational strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Lead development, delivery, integration, and continuous enhancement of the basic sciences curriculum.
• Ensure alignment of content, assessments, and outcomes across Years 1‑3.
• Promote horizontal and vertical integration of basic and clinical sciences.
• Collaborate with the Vertical Modules Lead to map and reinforce spiral learning.
• Support innovative teaching methods such as simulation, case‑based, team‑based, and technology‑enhanced learning.
• Oversee quality assurance, monitor feedback, and drive improvement initiatives.
• Assist with accreditation activities, audits, and program reviews.
• Report regularly to the Dean of Medicine on performance, risks, and quality metrics.

Required profile

• Proven academic leadership experience in medical education.
• Strong understanding of curriculum design, mapping, and assessment strategies.
• Experience working with multidisciplinary faculty and external partners.
• Track record of implementing quality improvement and accreditation processes.
