Production Instructor – Prison Industries

About the role

The HM Prison & Probation Service is expanding its Industries programme at HMP Wealstun. Two Production Instructors are required to deliver practical training and supervise manufacturing and product‑assembly activities within the secure environment.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, deliver and assess hands‑on training for inmates in manufacturing, assembly and trade‑based projects.
• Ensure health and safety standards are met in workshop settings.
• Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress and product output.
• Collaborate with prison staff to integrate training into the broader rehabilitation plan.
• Provide constructive feedback and support to learners.

Required profile

• Experience in manufacturing, product assembly or a trade sector.
• Ability to communicate clearly and influence learners.
• Commitment to developing self and others.
• Sound decision‑making skills.

Required skills

• Practical knowledge of health and safety legislation applicable to workshop environments.
