Support Services – Stores/Warehouse Officer

About the role

This position supports the operational needs of HM Prison Featherstone by managing the receipt, storage, and distribution of goods and equipment. Working within a secure environment, the role ensures that all deliveries are logged, inspected and directed to the correct internal or external locations.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor, log and X‑ray all deliveries, then distribute items to the appropriate areas.
• Process requisitions and receive goods using the prison finance system.
• Maintain stock levels through inventory management systems and conduct regular stocktakes.
• Supervise the prisoner workforce involved in stores and warehouse activities.
• Handle staff uniform exchanges, laundry transport and waste management in line with COSHH regulations.
• Operate forklift and Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) for internal movements and perform vehicle checks.
• Manage outside storage areas, maintain accurate records and act as banksman for plant equipment.
• Support planned maintenance, small repairs and project work as required.
• Escort and supervise technical contractors, ensuring compliance with security procedures.
