Vocational Instructor – Barber & Hairdresser (HMP Woodhill)

About the role

This full‑time position is based at HMP Woodhill in Milton Keynes. The instructor will deliver barbering and hairdressing training to prisoners, helping them gain industry‑recognised qualifications and supporting their rehabilitation and future employability.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver practical barbering and hairdressing training aligned with national standards and accreditation requirements.
• Assess prisoners' learning needs, create Individual Learning Plans and maintain accurate learner records.
• Induct prisoners to workshop safety procedures, including health and safety, COSHH, and safe use of machinery and tools.
• Supervise workshop activities, monitor discipline, log attendance, and approve wages or piece‑work payments.
• Complete required security and incident forms (ACCT, VRIR, SIR) and contribute to Incentive Earned Privileges reports.
• Provide career advice and support prisoners in pursuing further qualifications.

Required profile

• Experience in barbering or hairdressing, preferably with industry‑recognised qualifications.
• Ability to assess skills, set learning goals and give constructive feedback.
• Understanding of prison security standards and a commitment to maintaining a safe, hygienic workshop environment.
• Strong organisational skills for record‑keeping and reporting.
