Assistant Director of Engineering

About the role

The Assistant Director of Engineering supports the head of the engineering department in managing the hotel’s building, grounds, and technical systems. This role focuses on safety, security, asset protection, and the delivery of high‑quality guest and employee experiences through effective maintenance and energy‑conservation programs.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in budgeting, capital expenditures, and preventive‑maintenance planning.
• Supervise daily engineering operations, including HVAC‑R, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, water‑treatment, and life‑safety systems.
• Assign, track, and follow up on work orders for staff and contractors.
• Act as technical liaison for all hotel departments and oversee repairs, renovations, and equipment purchases.
• Maintain compliance with permits, licenses, and safety regulations.
• Manage inventories of parts, supplies, and equipment to minimize downtime.
• Support energy‑conservation initiatives and evaluate new technologies.
• Provide leadership and training to engineering staff, and step in as acting Director when needed.

Required profile

• High school diploma/GED with 4 years of engineering‑maintenance experience, **or** a 2‑year degree in Building & Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or related field with 2 years of experience.
• Technical training in HVAC‑R, electrical, and plumbing systems.
