About the role

As a member of the Headquarters Technical Unit MHPSS Team, you will provide technical quality oversight and programmatic guidance to global and country‑level mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) activities. The role combines remote technical assistance with frequent field visits to ensure high‑quality, culturally appropriate interventions.

Key responsibilities

  • Support country teams in designing and implementing culturally appropriate mental health, psychosocial, early childhood development, and peer‑support programmes for refugees and crisis‑affected populations.
  • Assist in the development of project proposals and expansion of MHPSS programming.
  • Ensure all MHPSS work aligns with IASC guidelines and IMC’s technical standards.
  • Provide cross‑cutting integration support across MHPSS, nutrition, health, child protection and VAWG programmes.
  • Facilitate coordination with government authorities, international and national organisations, and lead working‑group activities.
  • Develop and apply standardized monitoring and evaluation tools, capturing lessons learned for replication.
  • Represent IMC at national and international conferences and meetings.
  • Conduct regular field visits, produce situational analysis reports, and deliver recommendations for programme improvement.

Required profile

  • Four‑year university degree in a related field (or equivalent education and experience).
  • Professional mental‑health qualification (psychologist, clinical social worker, psychiatrist, or psychiatric nurse) with clinical practice experience.
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience, including 5 years establishing and managing MHPSS programmes in humanitarian or low‑resource settings.
  • In‑depth knowledge of global MHPSS guidelines such as the IASC MHPSS guidelines.
  • Demonstrated experience in training, capacity building, and mentorship.
  • Strong organisational, supervisory, reporting and writing abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work across diverse cultural environments.
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently on short notice; excellent command of written and spoken English.
