Group Worker – Prison Rehabilitation

About the role

The Group Worker is based at HMYOI Portland and delivers structured programmes to help prisoners understand their behaviour, develop critical thinking, and build positive relationships. Working within a small team, you will provide both group‑based and one‑to‑one support aimed at reducing re‑offending.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver accredited programmes using manuals, both in groups and individually.
• Prepare and organise session materials, plan sessions, and adapt delivery to participants’ needs.
• Conduct assessments, screening tools, and maintain an accurate database of participant outcomes.
• Run motivational interviews and continuously engage current and prospective participants.
• Complete post‑session de‑briefs, record progress, set objectives, and contribute to programme reviews.
• Liaise with Treatment Managers, prison and community Offender Managers, and the sentence management team.
• Participate in supervision, professional development, and quality‑assurance activities.

Required profile

• Ability to work effectively in a prison environment, both in groups and one‑to‑one.
• Strong organisational skills for session planning and record‑keeping.
• Commitment to the rehabilitative mission and to reducing re‑offending.
• Willingness to engage in continuous professional development and supervision.
