Health, Safety and Fire Practitioner

About the role

This non‑operational specialist position supports the delivery of health, safety and fire management across HMYOI Aylesbury. Reporting to the Senior HS&F Advisor, the practitioner provides first‑line advice, incident investigation and training to staff, prisoners, contractors and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Administer and assure recording of accidents, assaults, near‑misses and fire incidents using the Sphera system.
• Investigate complex incidents, gather CCTV/BWVC evidence and produce detailed reports.
• Manage DSE training and assessment software, conduct ergonomic assessments and advise managers on necessary actions.
• Deliver health, safety and fire critical training, create individual learning plans and perform peer quality assurance.
• Support the risk‑management model within the HSF&L Governance Strategy and advise senior management on dangerous conditions.
• Produce, review and monitor establishment Fire Risk Assessments (FRAs), identifying significant risks and ensuring corrective actions.

Required profile

• Experience in health, safety and fire incident management within a secure environment.
• Ability to liaise with senior management, staff, prisoners, contractors and visitors.
• Strong investigative skills and attention to detail when handling sensitive information.
• Capability to work across multiple establishments and adapt to varying risk levels.
