Instructional Designer – Online Course Development

About the role

The Instructional Designer will partner with Subject Matter Experts to create high‑quality, fully accessible online courses for University of the People. You will apply proven adult‑learning methods and ensure all content meets university standards and accessibility guidelines.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts to design and develop engaging online courses.
• Provide expertise in instructional planning, development, implementation, and evaluation.
• Review course materials for copyright, ADA, and Section 508 compliance.
• Work with the Course Developer team to create interactive, accessible content elements.
• Integrate teaching and learning theory and distance‑learning principles throughout the development process.
• Select instructional materials and design learning tools and activities for an interactive online environment.
• Guide the creation of effective assessments and contribute to the identification of high‑quality Open Educational Resources (OER).
• Define course elements such as syllabi, learning outcomes, and curricular mapping while tracking progress and timelines.

Required profile

• Experience collaborating with faculty or subject‑matter experts in an online learning context.
• Strong understanding of adult‑learning (andragogical) principles and accessibility standards.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
