Senior Finance Specialist – Project Accounting

About the role

The Senior Finance Specialist – Project Accounting will oversee the day‑to‑day financial management of donor‑funded projects. You will ensure that all project transactions are accurately recorded, compliant with donor and organisational policies, and reported on time. The role works closely with finance, project, procurement and operations teams to support effective project implementation.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, update and monitor project budgets, supporting revisions, reallocations and cash‑flow forecasts in line with donor agreements.
• Track project expenditures, commitments, advances and income; produce budget‑vs‑actual reports, analyse variances and recommend corrective actions.
• Record and code all project financial transactions in the ERP system, review payments, settlements and cost allocations for accuracy.
• Maintain comprehensive financial documentation, including contracts, invoices, approvals and donor correspondence.
• Ensure compliance with donor requirements and organisational policies; verify that expenses are allowable, allocable and properly documented.
• Prepare schedules, reports and reconciliations for donor, internal and external audits and follow up on audit observations.
• Act as the finance focal point for assigned projects, providing guidance to project teams and identifying process improvements.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing finances of donor‑funded projects.
• Strong understanding of donor compliance, budgeting and financial reporting.
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams.
• Attention to detail and strong analytical skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with an ERP/accounting system.
