Senior Software Engineer – Java Backend (Amman)

About the role

We are expanding our Amman engineering team and need a self‑driven Senior Software Engineer with strong Java expertise. You will work on the backend of our Content Management System, enabling authors worldwide to submit and manage research that fuels scientific discovery.

Key responsibilities

• Architect, design, develop, and maintain core backend systems and features.
• Collaborate with the Software Quality Assurance team within a Scrum environment to deliver high‑quality releases on schedule.
• Participate in Agile Scrum ceremonies and follow Scrum methodology.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues in test and production environments.
• Conduct design and code reviews, ensuring maintainable and high‑standard code.
• Work with back‑end APIs, JMS, and related components.
• Continuously improve code quality through refactoring and technical‑debt management.
• Debug issues efficiently and support teammates across different regions and time zones.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 5+ years of professional Java development experience with solid object‑oriented design skills.
• Strong organizational, oral and written communication skills in English.
• Experience defining repository structures, branching strategies, and conducting thorough code reviews.
• Ability to balance and prioritize tasks to meet critical deadlines.
