Assistant Chief Engineer

About the role

The Assistant Chief Engineer supports the department head in overseeing the building’s engineering operations, budget, and capital projects. This full‑time position ensures safety, security, and asset protection while enhancing guest and employee satisfaction through effective communication and training.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise distribution and tracking of repair work orders and ensure timely, quality completion.
• Assist in planning, scheduling, and evaluating preventative maintenance programs.
• Manage the physical plant, including HVAC‑R, refrigeration, plumbing, water‑treatment, electrical, and life‑safety systems.
• Provide 24/7 emergency response, operate generators and fire pumps, and perform equipment repairs as needed.
• Maintain accurate logs, records, and inventory of supplies, equipment, and uniforms.
• Recommend and coordinate additional services such as painting, renovations, and equipment purchases.
• Supervise day‑to‑day engineering operations and act as interim director in the Director of Engineering’s absence.
• Lead safety training, orientation programs, and promote exceptional customer service.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED with 4 years of engineering/maintenance experience and technical training in HVAC‑R, electrical, and plumbing, or a 2‑year degree in Building & Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, etc., with 2 years of relevant experience and the same technical training.
