Chief Accountant

About the role

An experienced Chief Accountant is sought to lead the accounting team, oversee corporate and individual tax matters, ensure compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations, and maintain high standards of accuracy and client service. The role reports directly to the Operations Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and supervise the entire accounting team, providing training and guidance to maintain and improve team knowledge and skills
• Ensure proper tax interviews and consultations are conducted with clients, and establish procedures for tax consultations and onboarding new clients
• Review corporate and individual tax returns for accuracy and compliance, and advise business owners and individuals on applicable tax laws and regulations
• Oversee payroll tax processing and proactively identify and resolve potential tax compliance issues
• Maintain relationships with existing clients and develop new ones, keeping client files organized, accurate and up to date
• Supervise, mentor and train junior accountants, accounting clerks and bookkeepers
• Communicate with tax authorities, government entities and clients as required, and collaborate with other departments to achieve company objectives

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or certification
• QuickBooks ProAdvisor certification
• At least 7 years of experience as a professional accountant, with extensive experience in corporate and individual taxation
• High level of accuracy, attention to detail, organization and time management, and strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
