Civil Structural Designer (Data Center)

About the role

The Civil Structural Designer will act as the independent technical reviewer for civil, structural and architectural deliverables of data centre facilities. Reporting to the Project Management Consultant (PMC), you will ensure designs are code‑compliant, constructible and aligned with project briefs and standards.

Key responsibilities

• Review and assess design submissions from concept to Issued for Construction (IFC) and shop drawings, providing actionable comments within agreed timeframes.
• Evaluate structural packages – foundations, slabs, framing, steel and concrete systems – and verify calculations for accuracy, code compliance and data‑centre loading conditions.
• Assess architectural drawings, floor plans, elevations, façade details and raised‑floor layouts for functional alignment.
• Review civil works including site grading, drainage, retaining structures and utility trench layouts.
• Confirm that structural and architectural designs accommodate MEP and ICT/ELV requirements, such as equipment pads, penetrations and cable‑tray supports.
• Inspect BIM models, verify Level of Development (LOD), and ensure clash detection is resolved before IFC issue.
• Participate in design review meetings, BIM workshops and coordination sessions, documenting minutes and action items.
• Support construction phase by reviewing shop drawings, material submittals, method statements and inspection plans, raising non‑conformance records as needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or Architecture.
• 8–12 years of engineering or design experience in civil, structural and architectural disciplines, preferably on consultancy‑side data‑centre or mission‑critical projects.
• Proven ability to analyse and verify structural calculations using industry‑standard software.
• Strong knowledge of international design codes (EN 1990‑1994, EN 1997‑1998) and relevant BS standards.

Required skills

• Structural analysis tools: ETABS, STAAD.Pro, SAP2000 or equivalent.
• BIM model review and clash detection.
• Design of foundations, slabs, steel and concrete structures.
• Understanding of MEP and ICT/ELV integration requirements.
• Familiarity with EN and BS design codes.
