Economic Recovery Officer – Civil Engineer (Humanitarian)

About the role

The Economic Recovery Officer – Civil Engineer will support the technical planning, supervision and monitoring of livelihoods and cash‑for‑work projects. The focus is on construction, soil and water conservation, and nature‑based solutions such as gabion structures and afforestation, ensuring compliance with engineering standards and safety protocols.

Key responsibilities

• Review and validate engineering designs, Bills of Quantities (BoQs) and shop drawings in coordination with the Project Manager.
• Ensure all construction, rehabilitation and conservation works meet technical specifications, quality standards and OSH requirements.
• Provide day‑to‑day on‑site technical support to field teams, CfW participants and contractors, including drawing interpretation and troubleshooting.
• Lead site operations, manage logistics, supervise activities and maintain accurate CfW documentation.
• Collect, verify and upload attendance, work outputs and incident logs to GIZ and DRC databases within agreed deadlines.
• Promote beneficiary awareness of legal, protection, payment, safety and work‑cycle procedures.

Required profile

• Civil Engineer with experience in humanitarian or cash‑for‑work projects.
• Ability to work closely with contractors, local authorities and community stakeholders.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety standards.
