Fiber Network Planner

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Fiber Network Planner to join our team in Damascus. The role involves planning and optimizing DWDM and optical transport network capacity, ensuring robust and scalable solutions for backbone, metro and inter‑site connectivity.

Key responsibilities

• Develop DWDM/optical transport plans for backbone, metro and inter‑site links based on traffic demand and service requirements.
• Translate IP/MPLS and service needs into wavelength, channel, OTN and transport capacity designs.
• Design and validate optical paths, protection schemes, diversity, regeneration, ROADM/OADM usage (including CDC‑F), transponder capacity and power budgets.
• Review existing transport inventory, fibre routes, shelf/card/port capacity and wavelength utilisation.
• Coordinate with fibre planners, IP/MPLS planners, operations, vendors and implementation teams to align optical plans with physical routes.
• Produce planning outputs such as wavelength allocation, trail/path records, equipment requirements and migration plans.
• Support reconciliation of planned DWDM services with network inventory, circuit records and NMS/EMS data.
• Identify risks related to capacity exhaustion, route diversity, optical impairments or inaccurate records.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Telecom or a related field.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in DWDM/OTN/optical transport planning or engineering.
• Strong knowledge of optical spectrum (ITU‑T grids, Flex Grid, Super Channels) and multilayer protection mechanisms.
• Experience with major optical vendors, NMS/EMS and inventory systems.
• Fluent in English and Arabic (mandatory).

• MEF/Carrier Ethernet or OTN training (advantage)
• ITIL Foundation (preferred)
