IM and GIS Consultant (Gaza Response)

About the role

IOM, a UN-related organization working on migration, is recruiting an Information Management (IM) and Geographic Information System (GIS) Consultant for its Gaza Response project. The consultant works under the supervision of the Senior Programme Coordinator in Amman and the Programme Coordinator of Needs and Population Monitoring, and develops GIS systems, data collection tools, databases and statistical reports and maps.

Key responsibilities

• Support the implementation and routine monitoring of project activities according to approved workplans.
• Maintain, update and operate programme databases and data collection systems, and help implement data gathering and information management mechanisms.
• Monitor data collection processes, including encoding, validation, storage and transfer to IOM data repositories and data warehouses.
• Clean and analyse data, and help staff adapt and use data collection tools, databases and statistical outputs such as tables, charts and maps.
• Operate existing GIS systems and produce maps and spatial outputs, and perform data visualization and mapping with GIS software.
• Promote consistent GIS coding and geographic referencing, and provide user support and basic training on IM and GIS tools.
• Carry out data entry, verification and updates, and perform other related duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information management or related engineering fields with three years of relevant experience, or high school diploma with five years of experience.
• Experience managing information flows and data (collection, storage, processing, analysis).
• Knowledge of recent IT developments; prior work with international humanitarian or multi-cultural organizations is an advantage.
• Fluency in English and Arabic, oral and written, assessed during selection.

Required skills

• SQL database, Microsoft Office, QGIS and ArcGIS.
• Statistical analysis and data collection methodologies, including KoboCollect.
