Mechanical Design Engineer – Construction & Infrastructure

About the role

Prime Gate is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to develop, review and deliver mechanical designs for construction and infrastructure projects. The role covers the full design lifecycle from concept through detailed design and tender stages, supporting project delivery and ensuring safe, compliant, constructible solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop mechanical designs for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, piping, pumps, compressors and utility systems in line with client requirements and codes.
• Prepare design calculations (heat loads, duct and pipe sizing, pump selection, pressure drops, ventilation rates) and document assumptions in design reports.
• Produce and review engineering drawings, schematics, isometrics and P&IDs using AutoCAD, Revit or other BIM tools.
• Coordinate design interfaces with civil, structural, electrical, instrumentation and control disciplines and resolve conflicts.
• Support tendering and procurement by preparing specifications, responding to technical queries and reviewing vendor data sheets.
• Provide technical support during construction, review contractor submittals, RFIs and method statements, and assist with site inspections and commissioning.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (post‑graduate qualifications or professional registration such as PE, P.Eng., CEng are a plus).
• Minimum 7 years of mechanical design experience in construction, infrastructure or engineering consultancy.
• Proven experience preparing calculations, equipment selections, P&IDs and construction‑ready documentation for medium to large projects.
• Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and providing on‑site technical support.

Required skills

• Proficiency in AutoCAD and experience with Revit or other BIM tools.
• Familiarity with mechanical design and analysis software (e.g., HAP, TRACE, Carrier, PIPE‑FLO, AutoPIPE).
• Strong engineering analysis skills for HVAC load calculations, ductwork and piping sizing, pump and fan performance.
• Competence with Microsoft Excel, Word and PDF markup tools for calculations, reports and document control.
