Regional Director, Arab States

About the role

The United Nations Development Coordination Office (UNDCO) is seeking a Regional Director for the Arab States, based in Amman. Reporting to the Assistant Secretary‑General/Director of UNDCO and the Chair of the UN Sustainable Development Group, the role provides strategic leadership for the Resident Coordinator system across the region.

Key responsibilities

• Lead DCO’s regional interface, ensuring horizontal collaboration across the UN Development System.
• Advance regional mechanisms such as the Regional Platforms for Integration and support country offices in partnership with the Regional Economic Commission.
• Provide field‑facing support to Resident Coordinators, coordinating with senior UN units to promote coherent SDG delivery.
• Drive sustainable‑development thought leadership, partnerships and convening to maximise SDG impact.
• Represent the UN at regional, sub‑regional and country levels, acting as a broker of partnerships and strategic analyst.

Required profile

• Extensive experience as a development practitioner and senior representative.
• Strong strategic and management capabilities, with a proven record of leading large, multi‑stakeholder teams.
• Excellent understanding of the UN development architecture, the 2030 Agenda and UN 2.0 transformation.
• Ability to work outward‑facing, building partnerships and facilitating high‑level dialogue.
