Senior Area Contract Manager – Probation Services

About the role

The Senior Area Contract Manager (SACM) is responsible for overseeing the delivery and development of a portfolio of contracts within the Probation Services area, including Commissioned Rehabilitative Services. Reporting to the Deputy Director or Head of Community Integration, the role ensures effective contract management, stakeholder engagement, and service planning across multiple locations.

Key responsibilities

• Accountable for contract delivery, risk management and oversight of interfaces with prisons, Electronic Monitoring, and Bail Accommodation Support Service.
• Lead service planning, development, transition, exit, mobilisation and commissioning activities within the designated area.
• Evaluate sentence demand and align service delivery with local and national priorities.
• Collaborate with Deputy Directors, Service Managers, Contract Support Officers, Operational Audit Team, System Development Team and other HMPPS/MOJ functions.
• Provide strategic subject‑matter expertise on service specifications, cross‑regional suppliers, or specific offender population segments.
• Engage with external stakeholders, ensuring seamless integration of contracted services.

Required profile

• Senior‑level experience in public‑sector contract management and service delivery.
• Proven ability to manage complex, high‑risk contracts and lead multi‑disciplinary teams.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Experience evaluating service demand against policy priorities.
• Ability to work across multiple geographic locations.
