Senior Backend & AI Systems Architect

About the role

Clenergize Consultants is seeking a Senior Backend & AI Systems Architect to lead the design and delivery of scalable, multi‑tenant backend services for its energy and sustainability platform. You will work closely with product and engineering teams to embed AI capabilities throughout the solution.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build scalable backend services using Node.js and/or Python.
• Architect multi‑tenant SaaS systems with strong security and tenant isolation.
• Define and implement REST and/or GraphQL APIs for frontend consumption.
• Develop AI‑powered workflows leveraging OpenAI, Anthropic and modern LLM tooling.
• Implement retrieval‑augmented generation, embeddings, and document‑processing pipelines.
• Create parsers for PDFs, spreadsheets and other operational documents.
• Own cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines and observability (Datadog, Grafana, Sentry).
• Improve platform reliability, performance and developer experience.
• Establish engineering best practices across architecture, testing and deployment.
• Contribute to product planning and technical decision‑making.

Required profile

• 8+ years of backend or full‑stack software engineering experience.
• Proven experience architecting multi‑tenant SaaS platforms.
• Strong expertise with relational databases, schema design, indexing and tenant isolation.
• Hands‑on experience with Node.js and/or Python.
• Experience designing secure authentication, RBAC and API services.
• Cloud‑native experience on AWS or Azure, with Kubernetes or container orchestration.
• Production experience with LLM APIs, retrieval pipelines, vector databases and embeddings.
• Familiarity with observability tooling (Datadog, Grafana, Sentry) and AI‑assisted development tools.
