AI Backend Engineer (Associate)

About the role

We are looking for an Associate AI Backend Engineer to join our AI Centre of Excellence in Amman. You will help design, build and ship backend services that power AI products across PwC’s Middle East operations.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement RESTful APIs for authentication, data access and health checks.
• Develop modular services for model inference, prompt orchestration and pipeline management.
• Orchestrate background and asynchronous tasks for long‑running AI workloads.
• Integrate with leading LLM platforms such as Azure OpenAI, OpenAI and Hugging Face, optimizing performance and cost.
• Containerize applications using Docker and Docker Compose and collaborate on CI/CD pipelines.
• Work with data engineers to manage and scale data stores.
• Define clear API contracts and data models together with frontend engineers.
• Produce documentation including OpenAPI/Swagger specifications, architecture diagrams and in‑code comments.
• Participate in design discussions, architectural reviews and peer code reviews.

Required profile

• Associate‑level professional with a strong problem‑solving mindset.
• Experience developing backend services for AI or data‑intensive applications.
• Ability to work collaboratively in cross‑functional teams.
