Personal Property Specialist (PPSO) – Military Relocation

About the role

The Personal Property Specialist Counselor/Lead supports U.S. Department of Defense personnel, families, and civilians by managing the shipment and storage of household goods, vehicles, and other personal items worldwide. Reporting to the PPSO Manager, this role oversees clerical staff, ensures compliance with regulations, and provides expert counseling on entitlements and logistics.

Key responsibilities

• Counsel DoD military and civilian personnel on shipping entitlements for household goods, unaccompanied baggage, mobile homes, vehicles, pets, weapons, and other items.
• Review orders to determine eligibility for government‑funded shipment or storage.
• Prepare and distribute Government Bills of Lading, corrections, and certified copies.
• Coordinate with carriers and clerks to inspect shipments for restricted or prohibited items.
• Initiate tracer actions to locate lost or delayed shipments.
• Process Personally Procured Move (PPM) requests, compute costs, and prepare documentation for DFAS settlement.
• Handle claims for reimbursement, determine entitlements, and submit required paperwork.
• Conduct group briefings on commercial and DIY moves and distribute relocation documents per contract requirements.

Required profile

• Experience counseling DoD personnel on personal property moves.
• Knowledge of regulations governing government‑funded shipments and storage.
• Ability to review orders, calculate weights, and verify documentation.
• Strong organizational skills to supervise clerical staff and manage multiple shipments.

Required skills

• Cost estimation and financial reconciliation for moves.
• Claims processing and entitlement determination.
